Woman gets 80% of Her Face Replaced
It is not known how a woman’s (Identity has not been released) face was injured, but a woman had eighty percent of her face replaced in a Cleveland Clinic. The surgery, which took place about two weeks ago, is reported to have lasted twenty-two hours. The woman who was operated on had her own upper eyelids, chin, lower lip and forehead left from an injury she had survived. It is also reported that the woman could not eat or breathe by herself. The donated face came from a female cadaver’s family who had approved the donation.
The lead surgeon, Maria Siemionow, says that the woman is fine and that there is no rejection at this point. This is the most extensive face transplant that has been done up to date.
The woman’s family is very grateful for the donation and says that the transplant will give the woman a renewed chance at life.
